Data Storage
The JPL Supercomputing and Visualization Facility provides users with ample
space for storing their datasets, which can often be very large. These include
the user's home directory, the user's work directory, and temporary scratch directories.
Users may store their data in the system that best meets their
needs.
Storage quotas vary between computer systems and individual accounts,
users may contact us to make arrangements for additional storage space
as needed.
Home Directory
User's home directories are intended primarily for source code and compiled
executables. These directories are backed up nightly.
Work Space
- We assign each user a work space directory at:
- /work??/<projectcode>/<username>
- Work space is intended to hold necessary files for the duration of an active project.
Work space directories are not backed up, and each user should remove their files from the work space directory when the project is no longer active.
Note: Your project code can be found at the top of your supercomputer account application.
Longterm Storage Space
Each active project on our system is given 1 TB of storage space for their programs and data files. Some projects have purchased additional storage space for themselves, and are paying for it separately. For all other projects that need over-quota storage, the rate is $75 per TB per month.
Please note that this rate applies only to active projects on our systems. We define active project as a project that uses at least 6000 CPU-hours per year, fairly evenly spread over the entire year. We do not provide archival storage services, or storage for inactive projects. Inactive projects are expected to use their own storage, or the institutional storage services (http://nearspace.jpl.nasa.gov), which charges $750 per TB per month.
